How to read a consensus

A consensus adds up the opinions of several analysis houses: strong buy, buy, hold, sell, strong sell. It describes the dominant opinion at the moment, not the future of the share price. Two things to look at before the verdict: the number of reviews (five analysts do not make a solid consensus) and its evolution (a consensus that deteriorates month by month says more than a photo).

Why be wary of share price targets

A price target is a price at 12 months calculated by an analyst based on their own assumptions. It is often revised after the fact: when the share price rises, targets follow; when it falls, they fall with a delay. A "potential" of 40 % is therefore first a sign of a share price that has just moved faster than the analysts. Use it as a benchmark, never as a promise.

Frequently Asked Questions

To read this page properly

Where do analyst opinions come from?
Publications from analysis houses (banks, brokers, research firms) relayed by our financial data provider, updated every week.
Why don't some companies have a share price target?
The provider only publishes targets and rating changes for stocks listed in the United States. European or Asian companies have a consensus, estimates, and a surprise history, but no target, except through their ADR.
Do these pages provide advice?
No. They relay third-party opinions, dated, to help understand what the market expects from a company.
